i was watching the trailer for the lorax the other day and already frowning in mild irritation at the tired “boy goes on quest to fulfill passive love interest’s dreams and thus win her heart” plot
but then this exchange happened
boy: “you wouldn’t hit a girl, would you?”
lorax: “that’s a WOMAN?”
double take, eyebrows launch into the stratosphere, jaw unhinges far enough to accommodate a small antelope, tremors shake the earth, everyone starts to weep incredulous tears of blood as the world erupts into flames, etc
i propose a moratorium on implicitly transmisogynist jokes in children’s media, how about that

oh i kind of wanted to see this movie too dang hmmmm
YEAH……. one of many reasons i’m incredibly :/ at this adaptation
which sucks because it’s my favorite kids book and that’s kind of saying a lot because i’m in love with kids books!!!
